L-Lysine

L-Lysine has several functions and health benefits. Lysine is an essential amino acid which means that humans cannot create it by itself. Lysine is also used for the health and integrity of skin. L-Lysine is important for growth, tissue repair and the production of hormones, enzymes and antibodies. It is also involved in the regulation of the absorption of calcium and the maintenance of nitrogen balance within the body. L-Lysine is needed for the formation of collagen, the protein that forms the matrix of bone, cartilage and connective tissue. The human nutritional requirement is 1–1.5 g daily. Foods that contain significant amounts of lysine include: hemp seeds, red meat, eggs, watercress and soybeans. Solgar offers two different Lysine supplement products dosages: 500mg and 1000mg, in capsules or tablets form, depending on your need, or suspected lysine deficiency.
